3D-Printed Mandala Furniture for Ukiyo Handroll Bar
Bespoke seating, tables, and wall art designed for a mindful dining experience
Where furniture becomes part of the dining experience.
Ukiyo Handroll Bar is a refined culinary destination in Covent Garden, London, where architecture and atmosphere are carefully considered as part of the dining experience. Rooted in the concept of Ukiyo, the floating world, the interior prioritises calm, balance, and sensory awareness over literal stylistic references.
Fab.Pub collaborated with Mamou-Mani to fabricate a bespoke Mandala furniture range for the restaurant, including Mandala Stools, Mandala Wall Art, and custom Mandala tables.
Together, these elements form a cohesive design language that defines the bar seating area and surrounding space. Each piece contributes to a unified spatial rhythm, supporting both function and contemplation within a high-performance hospitality environment.
THE CHALLENGE: CREATING A COHESIVE MANDALA FURNITURE SYSTEM FOR A HIGH-PERFORMANCE HOSPITALITY SPACE
Ukiyo’s environment operates at high intensity, with constant turnover, prolonged seating, and tight spatial tolerances. Standard hospitality furniture struggled to meet the demands of the space without fragmenting the visual language or compromising comfort.
The key challenges were:
- Integrating seating, tables, and wall elements into a single, coherent furniture language rather than a collection of unrelated pieces
- Achieving ergonomic comfort at the bar while working within fixed heights and circulation constraints
- Responding to bespoke spatial conditions that could not be resolved through off-the-shelf furniture
- Meeting sustainability expectations without sacrificing durability or finish
- Allowing the furniture to evolve, rather than locking the space into a fixed solution
Conventional furniture systems lacked the adaptability, precision, and design continuity required to resolve these constraints simultaneously.
THE SOLUTION: PARAMETRIC 3D-PRINTED STOOLS, TABLES, AND WALL ART DESIGNED TO EVOLVE WITH THE SPACE
Mamou-Mani developed the Mandala range using parametric design principles inspired by mandala geometry, symmetry, and flow. Fab.Pub brought these designs to life through large-format 3D printing and eco-conscious materials, enabling a fully customised approach across multiple furniture typologies.
- Through digital fabrication, Fab.Pub delivered:
- Mandala High Stools are tailored precisely to the bar height and circulation
- Sculptural Mandala Wall Art acting as a visual and spatial anchor
- Custom Mandala tables designed to integrate seamlessly with the seating
- Iterative design refinements based on real-world use and feedback
- Reduced material waste through additive manufacturing
This approach allowed the furniture to evolve as part of the space, rather than remain static objects.
THE IMPACT: A MINDFUL DINING ENVIRONMENT SHAPED BY CUSTOM FURNITURE, COMFORT, AND CALM
The Mandala furniture range now plays a central role in defining Ukiyo’s interior identity.
The stools, tables, and wall art:
- Establish a strong visual rhythm along the bar
- Encourage comfortable, mindful seating and dining
- Reinforce the restaurant’s calm and immersive atmosphere
- Demonstrate how 3D printing can support bespoke hospitality furniture at scale
The project highlights how parametric design and digital fabrication can deliver adaptable, sustainable furniture systems tailored to real operational needs.
